About Us

For more than two centuries, the Steinman family of Lancaster, Pennsylvania has owned and operated a wide variety of businesses focused on serving the needs of local communities. Service, on a local level, runs deep in the Steinman family. And it runs deep in the family’s businesses, charitable giving and civic involvement, too.

Today, the Steinman family operates businesses in local news media, agricultural news media, and commercial printing. All are part of the privately-owned holding company known as LNP Media Group. The family’s foundation, the Steinman Foundation, is the largest, private philanthropic force in Lancaster County and works passionately and diligently to improve the lives of thousands of people throughout the region.

Changes in the media landscape

With the creation of the internet, dawn of digital communications and explosion in social media, the way people source, receive, consume and transmit information has changed more profoundly in the past 40 years than in all of human history. Running local newspapers in this environment is not easy. In fact, more than 2,100 newspapers, many of them dedicated to local news, have closed across America since 2004.*

Despite this reality, the Steinman family, through LNP Media Group, is investing more in its local news operations.* With deep roots and an unyielding commitment to high-quality local journalism spanning more than two centuries,* the Steinmans and the company’s leadership believe that local journalism matters more today than ever.

Award-winning publications & Digital Platforms

Today, LNP Media Group operates several award-winning publications and digital platforms, including:

A History of Giving

Finally, carrying forward the vision of the company’s forefathers, James Hale Steinman and John Frederick Steinman, the Steinman Foundation works passionately and diligently to improve the quality of life in the communities that comprise Lancaster County.

Since 1951, the Steinman Foundation has donated more than $110 million to local community benefit organizations, many of them dedicated to underserved populations, throughout the area.

Today, the Steinman Foundation concentrates its giving in early childhood education; economic and workforce development / STEM; and community stewardship initiatives, such as farmland preservation, water quality programs, the arts, and a publicly-accessible online database of community indicators. Significant needs exist in all of these areas, as do significant opportunities to make a real difference in the lives of thousands of people.

Over more than two centuries, the Steinman family has been dedicated to serving local needs through its businesses, charitable giving and civic involvement. Today, the Steinmans remain committed to service, on a local level, for generations to come.
